[»] Keep your installation up to date
by Samuli T. - Jul 17th 2005 23:19:48

A word of warning is in place. Phpbb is a very popular software, and security holes in it attract a huge attention among script kiddies. Basically what they do is run google searches for vulnerable installations and use automated scripts to hack your installation.

Few tips that might help:
- Keep your installation up to date
- Disable safe mode, if it works for you
- Add a robots.txt to disallow access to your forums

[»] Excellent work!
by Apollyon - Jul 30th 2002 17:08:50

I know that not many people like to offer feedback regardless of how useful the application is, so I figured I would drop a comment and let you know I really appreciate phpBB and think it is awesome!

[»] Best BB!!
by Kris Arndt - Dec 15th 2000 12:45:31

Easily as good as vbulletin or UBB, but without the cost. This blows all the other free BB's away!

It is well designed and very clean.

          :) Since I posted I've installed RC3. Now I *really* can't wait for Version2.

I run a 1.4 phpBB forum for the University I work and it's proved very popular. The students I've had helping me play with RC3 are very impressed. The new look [code] tag is proving very popular with the programmers.

It doesnt have near the features or customizations as vbulletin... but from the other free boards Ive tried it does seem to be the best amoung the free... it certainly was easy to get up and running quickly.
