MySQL High Availability clustering is a set of scripts and programs that provide a high availability database cluster using MySQL replication. It is transparent to client applications, as the cluster uses a shared logical IP to provide the service.

[»] Comparison with DRBD
by Alex Dusty - Nov 16th 2007 00:46:57

What are the benefits in comparison for example to using DRBD+heartbeat?
I'm using that solution with very high satisfaction.

We use MySQL's internal replication, instead of DRDB, this might place a lighter load on the network, though I haven't done any tests myself.

Besides this, we provide a testing routine that verifies the MySQL service, not just the node, and performs a takeover. We also attempt to restart the MySQL service on the master node before doing a full takeover.

Summarizing, this solution was developed specifically with MySQL in mind.
